Akuma’s Complete Story Before Street Fighter 6

He’s definitely not a fan of the mainstream spotlight, but despite that, Akuma has proven to be one of the most popular and prominent characters in all of Street Fighter. The demon warrior is one of the most seen characters not only in Street Fighter titles, but also in crossovers and guest appearances over the years.

Although he hasn’t been officially revealed for Street Fighter 6 yet, we’d be very surprised if Capcom didn’t finally bring Akuma into their next game. We’ve put together a video covering the events of his story throughout the franchise timeline leading up to SF6, as well as envisioning the directions the developers may take him in next.

As we begin to explore the deeper stories of characters like Ryu and Chun-Li, we notice that Capcom has given some characters more canon development and importance than others.

Akuma, though with a lot more backstory than most, has largely been an actor on the stage of Ryu’s story. That’s not the worst of it, as Ryu stands out, in many ways, as the heart of the franchise, but it also means that Akuma hasn’t seen as much development as he might have otherwise.

In fact, the most detailed and intriguing parts of his story take place before Ryu was born, as he and his brother, Gouken, trained under their teacher, Goutetsu.

The brothers would go on opposite paths with Akuma going the darker side with a philosophy that prioritizes power over pretty much everything else. It gets even darker in the fact that said power is displayed by defeating and killing worthy opponents…something that has made Akuma a monster in the eyes of the society around him.

Still, this entire setup seems to have been in service of the role that Akuma would play in Ryu’s story, as the latter has long struggled with an internal struggle to adopt this same power-focused philosophy to reap its immediate benefits. or your target. for transcendence through balance.

Seeing great potential in Ryu during an early encounter, Akuma allows the young fighter to live and tells him (threatens) to adopt killing intent and become as powerful.

This is how things have stayed for the past 20 years, as Ryu has continued his fight and Akuma has mostly stayed in the canon shadows. He doesn’t have much of an impact on the events of Street Fighters 2, 4, 5 or 3, but has persisted as a somewhat tangential character.

In fact, Akuma tends to release sometime after the initial release dates, as he joined Street Fighter 2 in the Super Turbo update, Street Fighter 3 in the Second Impact update, and Street Fighter 5 at the start of its second season. .

While he has done well as a hidden boss and generally as an extremely viable competitive character, we look forward to seeing Capcom use Akuma’s influence and prestige in their main storylines once again. You can hear the details in the following video.
