Don’t Pick This ‘Destiny 2’ Pirate Crew Unlock

Today is the Destiny 2 reset, and as such, you’ll be asked to likely pick two new upgrades for your Season of Plunder pirate crew, until you reach another time gate.

With the way this time gate works, you’ll likely only get 2-3 unlocks per week indefinitely, meaning one wrong choice can set a more valuable upgrade back by a week permanently. As such, you really don’t want to make any mistakes.

I already wrote the order in which the pirate crew would update in the coming weeks, but I want to give a specific warning about an update that people have chosen that seems to be explicitly bad, worse than most.

To update: Okay, I was wrong. The armor focus perk isn’t great, but it does give you 1570 armor which at least they can roll over 60 a good amount. The bad unlock perk is instead Armor Treasure Map, which will instead drop 1350, low-stat armor at the end of expeditions, so it’s pointless.

So I apologize for the SCUR-V slander. I still wouldn’t pick it early though, given the other options. The original article follows:

the update you do No want to get until absolutely necessary (I have it as option #9 on my list), it’s the top left, buy SCUR-V, the Server update. While his reload speed in combat bonus may be good, it also unlocks the ability to focus Season of the Plunder armor.

Cool, right? Focusing on armor has been a way to get top-tier gear in past seasons, so now we can do it again here, but theoretically with a monetary bonus to Plunder. But no, this armor is very bad.

This is not high stat armor and almost exclusively falls below 60, no matter what kind of armor focusing ghost mod you have. For some reason it also drops to 1350 power, which means you’d have to infuse it for it to be usable for the current season’s activities. This is also a coin burn, costing you 25 Legendary Shards and 5 Plunder Umbral energy, which you don’t want to waste on junk armor.

I’ve been through all the updates on the pirate crew list and strangely I don’t see anything that will make this focus advantage better. This is not a later stage upgrade that will turn these foci into high stat armor, nor are engrams that will lean towards spicier stats in any one area. looks like you can only focus on bad armor and low stats throughout the season. The only potential source of high-stat Plunder armor appears to be Master Ketchcrash, where “high-stat expedition armor” is listed as a potential reward.

So I wouldn’t pick that upgrade until much, much later in the season, and really, you’ll only do it then to summon SCUR-V for those bonuses, you still shouldn’t be focusing any of the armor, as that will just be a waste of resources. While the approach of past seasons has produced some amazing armor, that’s not the case with Plunder, and you’ll have to farm it from Master Ketchcrash instead, which is… a bit more difficult. Perhaps Bungie did this on purpose, since they saw how easily people were getting awesome armor from the last few Seasons of Concentration.

I’m focused on weapons and patterns for those weapons. See you there.
