There are several steps to take during the first part of this quest line. Completing it will require a lot of traveling and looting, as well as battles against pirate captains of legend.

Sails of the Shipstealer will not be immediately available to players entering the Season of Plunder. Some preliminary objectives must be completed before it can be accessed.

The first objective is titled Salvage and Salvation. It requires players to help Drifter recover some of his stolen cargo from House Salvation. This quest can be started from the Destinations tab in HELM

Once this is done, players will face Ahoy and Aweigh. This is the Ketchcrash job that tasks Destiny 2 players with taking down Eramis’ ragtag group of pirates on the spot.

Upon completion of Ahoy and Aweigh, players will be rewarded with the map fragment and treasure map information that will power the ship thief’s sails in the HELM.

Players have their work cut out for them when it comes to Sails of the Shipstealer. Right now there are technically 10 objectives, although the last one is simply accepting that the first part of the quest line was completed.

Each week, new quests for Sails of the Shipstealer will be added as Bungie updates Destiny 2 to keep the Season of Plunder going. This is how players can achieve the first week:

  • Get to the HELM and interact with the star chart in the hallway.
  • Go to the Missions tab and select the Captain’s Atlas to apply the Ketchcrash Map Fragment and Treasure Map information that should have already been completed.
  • Follow the quest marker for the first Expedition quest.
  • Collect buried treasures in the Expedition quest to complete it.
  • Go back to HELM and select a Star Chart update.
  • Defeat Val’aug the Brute in the first of several weekly Pirate Hideout quests.
  • After the Brute has been defeated, head to Eliksni Quarter and find the Ether Take holoprojector.
  • Travel a short distance from the holoprojector to meet up with Spider.
  • Approach Spider and finish the conversation to get to the end of the first week’s quest chain.
  • Confirm that the entire week of Sails of the Shipstealer has been completed as the final step.

In general, Sails of the Shipstealer in Destiny 2 is scheduled to be 62 steps. More will be unlocked each week, and will follow a similar pattern as mentioned above. Players will have to search for treasures, defeat a pirate captain and continue the story.
