Udyr’s release has been highly anticipated by the community, and the reception to his rework is generally positive. However, his win rate and overall power level are low enough to receive a serious set of buffs.
Before his redesign, Udyr’s uniform was one of the most outdated in League of Legends. Riot was challenged to maintain his core identity while adding much-needed complexity to his unique four-stance kit.
The concepts added to Udyr’s kit have generally been well received by the community so far, but his actual win rate hasn’t caught up. His win rate before this hotfix goes live on Platinum+ is under 43% according to u.gg, which is interestingly much lower than before the hotfix.
So, Udyr is receiving a set of benefits.
It’s not worth it that most new champions these days start out with a low win rate while people learn them. Unless Riot releases an incredibly broken champion, expect a low win rate.
For example, Zeri’s win rate at launch was hovering around 40%, and now she’s dominating high-level play. And while it looks like Udyr’s win rate will likely increase as more people learn the best ways to use his new kit, it’s been decided that he needs a little extra help.
A quick set of buffs for Udyr
Note that all of Udyr’s abilities can have up to 6 levels, so the maximum number of each ability changed reflects what 6 levels in an ability he maxes it out at rather than 5.
The review benefits are as follows:
- Q Physical Damage: 3-9% Max Health > 3-10% Max Health
- Q Physical Damage AD Ratio: 4% per 100 bonus AD > 6% per 100 bonus AD
- Q Physical Hit Damage: 5-25 (+10% bonus AD) > 5-45 (+20% bonus AD)
- Bonus Movement Speed E: 30-50% > 30-65%
- Stun Lock E: 6-4.5 seconds > 6-4 seconds
Udyr’s Q rarely leveled past one point in the ability, and due to the fact that most of Udyr’s kit scales with AP, there wasn’t much incentive for players to spend points on Q.
Additionally, Udyr’s E has received some significant buffs to movement speed and its ability to stun multiple targets.
And a quick set of nerfs to balance things out.
However, Udyr’s changes are not all benefits. Udyr’s W sustain is very strong late game, and his numbers have been reduced to keep him from revving up to become the best jungler in the game.
The W nerfs are as follows:
- Shield Strength W (Max Health Scaling): 2-5% > 2-4%
- W Heal On-Hit (max health scaling): 1.2-1.8% > 1.2-1.5%
While Udyr’s W base numbers haven’t been touched, his max health scaling percentage has been reduced across the board.
The buffs to Q and E are substantial and slightly offset by the small nerfs to W. Udyr is still very new, so only time will tell whether or not these buffs can bring Udyr closer to that break-even point. ideal 50% win rate.
