Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: Competitive Play Trailer Reveals New Pokémon, Moves, and Items

The Pokémon Company and Nintendo have released a new trailer for Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, and it shows off a new pocket monster and some new moves aimed at the competitive gaming community.

Released as the finale of the Pokémon World Championships held in London (check out our vlog here) in recent days, the trailer focuses on battles, which makes sense given the nature of the event. In it, we take a look at a new Pokémon, Cyclize, which is very reminiscent of the two main legendaries of this generation, Koraidon and Miraidon. Koraidon is the scarlet legendary and seems rooted in the past, while Miraidon the purple legendary seems very futuristic. Perhaps Cyclizar represents the present. Only time will tell.

Beyond Cycling, the trailer also reveals some new moves and items.:

  • Move on: tail shed Create a substitute, then switch places with a Pokemon from the waiting party.
  • Move on: tera blast – Changes type when the user has Terastalized.
  • Article: loaded die – Makes multi-hit moves more likely to hit more times.
  • Article: mirror grass – Copies an opponent’s stat boosts when consumed.
