Saints Row returns after a nine-year hiatus

Welcome back to This Week In Games Australia! This week: row of saints start the year-end race (or what’s left of it) with a bunch of weird little indies in tow. There are Aussie games, old favorites returning or finding new homes, and some interesting new indie threads too. This is what you will play this week.

August 22nd

Pocket City (PC)

pocket city was a mobile city builder for iOS and Android that was released about four years ago. Now, as it goes on to complete a sequel, it’s coming to PC. This is a very calm and minimalistic city builder, the kind you can click on for hours when you want to turn off your brain. I also quite like the art direction. It feels like capturing what sim city I was looking for so many years ago, without the jagged pixelation of the time. It’s worth checking out if city builders are your thing.

Destroy the trailer for my game “A Clumsy Flight”!

A Clumsy Flight (PC)

Did you like it Lufthausers? If you did, play a clumsy flight, a game that recalls the best of classic shmups and arcade shooters. This is definitely going on my list of games to watch this weekend.

Guild Wars 2 (PC)

Yes, you read it right. Guild Wars 2 it’s back. Specifically, because it’s finally coming to Steam after all these years. It’s now free and still generating regular content, if you’ve never played. Guild Wars 2 before (or maybe you didn’t want to because who needs other launcher?), you can now simply add it to your Steam library.

RITE (NS)

RITE, the puzzle platformer from Adelaide’s Pond Games, comes to Switch. It was initially released for PC in 2020. Did you like it? light blue? You are going to love this.

Saints Row (PS5, XSX, PC, PS4, XBO)

Will is bringing her beloved row of saints Series out of cold storage. row of saints It is the series that I take GTA in your own game. Rockstar’s brand of satire was always about crooked people at the intersection of the mundane and the crazy. Volition’s opinion is the same if he saw himself through the lens of a Tex Avery cartoon. The series is goofy, and its cast of characters have about three brain cells to share between them. The studio has been silent after his RS cleave agents of chaos landed with a thud, a commercial failure that saw Volition lose quite a bit of staff due to layoffs and cost cutting. Will it restart? row of saints be the fresh start Volition needs? Find out Tuesday.

August 24

Dying Light: Definitive Edition (NS)

If you haven’t played yet dying light yet, and I’d like to do it on the lowest powered video game system available today, here you go. It’s a great game! But I have to imagine that it will look and work like mud on the Switch. I hope I’m wrong on that!

August 25th

SD Gundam Battle Alliance (PS5, XSX, PC, NS, PS4, XBO)

I still don’t know what the heck this game is, but trailers are certainly very rare. bandai says SD Gundam Battle Alliance is an action role-playing game in which chibi Gundams venture into the G:Universe, a version of Gundam canon that twists the established facts and distorts itself. Your job is to restore Gundam canon at their rightful command, slamming little Gundam robots into each other like action figures. Look, if you’re a Gundam Fan, I need you to go into the comments and explain this game to me. Are you excited about that? Exactly what it is it’s? I need your help with this.

Arcade1Up Dragon’s Lair Cabinet

I usually don’t include things like hobby arcade cabinets in TWIG but I’m willing to make an exception for dragon’s lair. This game is an artifact of the arcade era: very expensive, wildly ambitious, and notoriously difficult to play. A fitting relic of a time when Don Bluth Animation was fighting Disney on multiple fronts. Some may have only seen the children of Strange things reproduces this in the second season of the show. For many Gen-Xers and Elder Millennials, a core memory has just been unlocked. Now you can bring this damn/beautiful game into your home, if you wish. You can order it online or get it from EB Games.

DEEEER Simulator (NS, PS4)

DEEEER simulator is what happens when someone decides goat simulator you’re not doing enough.

I Was a Teenage Exo-Colonist (PS5, PC, NS, PS4)

A game about growing up in humanity’s first colony on another world. It’s a game about discovery, both personal and planetary, and about the relationships you forge with a group of people trapped together in a new world. I like the art design, and I like that it takes chances on a hodgepodge of weird genres. Fully expect Ruby to be excited about this one.

Midnight Fighting Express (PC, NS, PS4, XBO)

The latest in a series of 2022 games about kicking the absolute hell out of a room full of stuntmen, Midnight Fighting Express lets you live out your John Woo movie fantasies of fighting eight men at once.

Pac-Man World Re-Pac (PS5, XSX, PC, NS, PS4, XBO)

For the five people in the world excited about the Pac-Man World Re-Pac remaster, good news: it comes out this week.

Shin chan: Me and the teacher on summer vacation — The seven-day endless journey (PS4)

This was included in TWIG last week, but was eventually moved to this week. Lots of people have gotten their hands on it ever since, and it looks like a really cute, cozy, uncomplicated little game that people seem to really like. Maybe put it on your radar if cozy gaming is your thing.

Soul Hackers 2 (PS5, XSX, PC, PS4, XBO)

soul hackers 2 is an Atlus JPGRG, the sequel to Devil Summoner: Soul Hackersand the fifth game in the devil summoner series, which is perhaps the biggest JRPG franchise title evolution imaginable. War has broken out between Yatagarasu and Phantom Society, who are opposing factions of Devil Summoner. The story follows Ringo and Figue, two ‘Aion’ beings, who ‘descend into the human world from their birthplace in the information data stream, to prevent a catastrophic event they predict will doom humanity’. That’s about as anime as it gets, and it should tell you right away if this is a game you’re interested in playing.
