Snipers got better again in Warzone Pacific Season 5 with big knockback changes

Warzone developers Raven Software have confirmed that sniping perks will be coming to the game in Season 5 after previous nerfs rendered them “unusable” in the eyes of many players.

Towards the end of Verdansk’s days in Warzone, you could barely move around the map for fear of being shot at from any direction. They were incredibly powerful, and the Kar98 was a must have on every meta loadout.

However, they’ve suffered several nerfs since then, and snipers are now a rarity in Caldera, Fortune’s Keep, and Rebirth Island, with rifles like the KG M40 and Cooper Carbine proving more popular as long-range options.

However, all of that could be set to change in Season 5, as the current generation of Warzone Pacific enters its grand finale before Warzone 2.

As noted in the Season 5 patch notes, snipers will get a noticeable buff in the season, bringing them a little closer to where they were in their dominant prime.

Raven Software explained: “Snipers have almost reached the ideal rate of healthy use and for the first time we are seeing a good variety of different weapons being used depending on the map and the situation. With the rebalancing of some of the Vanguard Optics and further recoil reduction, we expect this category of Weapons to be in a strong position going forward.”

They also included the following general changes to snipers:

  • Flinch decreased in heavy sniper rifles by 11%
  • Flinch decreased in light sniper rifles by 40%

In addition to the above, certain sniper rifles received balance changes to make them stronger in the Warzone Season 5 meta:

  • LW3 – Tundra (BOCW)
    • Damage range increased to 69 meters, from 61 meters
    • Upper torso damage multiplier increased from 1.1 to 1.52.
    • Lower torso damage multiplier increased from 1.05 to 1.3.
    • Limb damage multiplier increased from 0.9 to 1.0.
    • ADS Transition In Time decreased to 430ms, down from 460ms
  • Type 99 (VG)
    • Shiraishi 712mm sniper
      • Neck damage multiplier scaling increased from 1.0 to 1.62.
      • Upper torso damage multiplier reduced to 1.1, from 1.181
      • Sprint to Fire penalty reduced to -15%, from -18%
  • 3 line rifle (VG)
    • .30-06 20 round magazines
      • Damage bonus reduced from 10% to 7%
      • Fire penalty rate reduced to -6.5%, from -10%

With these massive changes to sniper rifles in Season 5, could we see the return of the sniper and marksman meta before Warzone 2 arrives?

Only time will tell, but for now, you’ll want to be careful to stick your head out from behind cover when traversing Warzone’s maps.
