Warzone Rebirth Island sunset leaves players blinded by rage

Warzone Rebirth Island is a mainstay of Battle Royale gameplay, giving those who don’t enjoy Calderra the option to play a smaller, more intense battle with their friends. However, with the latest update, Raven Software has implemented some lighting changes around the island that have caused some major concerns amongst the player base.

Sunsets. They are something almost universally loved by humans, directly simulating the part of our brain that experiences joy and the wondrous contemplation of existence. That is, apparently, unless you’re a Call of Duty Warzone player and they stream you out of the blue because you can’t watch.

A change to the Rebirth Island map creates dim lighting and a low sun in the sky: atmospheric, to be sure, but perhaps not ideal for fast-paced, intense combat. The general consensus of speech on Reddit is that the changes look beautiful, but ultimately create a worse gaming experience, with one user saying it plainly: “I hate it, poor visibility to spot enemies.”

The idea that looking east will result in burning your retina is not, in my opinion, a complete disaster; rather, it offers a unique tactical problem to overcome. If everyone has the same problems with visibility, why not use that to your advantage and approach from the sun side, masking your approach and taking out your enemy before they even know it’s there? Take a page from this player’s book: “I like the vibe of sunset. Just me, a margarita, and about 210 rounds of AR ammo to make it a good day.”

This update looks to include the last of the BR changes before the sequel releases in a few months, so I guess it’s pretty likely the sun is setting on Warzone, at least for now.
