Obligations: Warzone Season 5 features an expansive content roadmap, including five new weapon additions and many weapons receiving nerfs and buffs. In particular, we’ve seen some changes to ARs (assault rifles) in the game, and if you want to know more, we’ve got you covered.

Unsurprisingly, weapon balance updates in the AR weapon class often trigger massive changes to the overall weapon meta. As a result, we’ll walk you through our tiered list of the best meta assault rifles to use in Warzone Season 5, ranking them from best to worst.

crow software clarified that the main focus of Warzone Season 5 has been “[widen] options even more by targeting the best to bring them more in line, along with lifting individual weapons and weapon classes that are underutilized.”

This approach is seen in the changes made to ARs in Warzone Season 5. And to fully understand how we’ve organized our levels for all ARs, here’s a quick rundown of what each level represents.

Level Range Description:

  • S-Tier: This level comprises the popular “meta” weapons. Most competitive players will stick with these picks until something better comes along. They are nearly flawless and pack incredible damage.
  • Level A: These assault rifles are similar to the S-Tier, but with minor differences in consistency and power. These weapons become even more powerful with the right equipment.
  • Level B: This is the middle level of assault rifles. These weapons can still be used, but require the proper attachments. So depending on the loadout, expect to lose some lopsided fights.
  • Level C: This is the level where weapons start to degrade in quality. Attachments can help, but these assault rifles are mostly for fun. You can make big plays, but you’re going to lose a lot of fights.
  • Level D: Weapons to be avoided at all costs. They are not competitive and are unpleasant to play with due to their lack of power.

Note: This tier list will be ranked based on the most recent balance changes from Warzone Season 5. The goal is to create a tier list that reflects the current meta as accurately as humanly possible; however, this list is also based on the author’s opinion of the meta.

Tier S Assault Rifles

  • Grau 5.56
  • XM4

  • war 6

  • C58

  • EX1

  • Vargus 52

  • Automaton

  • AK-47 (BOCW)

  • STG44

  • go 83

With the Grau 5.56 receiving the most beneficial and pertinent upgrades, it took its place at the top tier of the assault rifle class in Warzone Season 5. The Vargo 52 and STG44 also received upgrades; they’re not expected to change the meta around weapons, leaving the S tier somewhat unchanged compared to Season 4. For now, the new EX1 laser rifle fits in here, as long as players use the correct barrel and don’t t try broadcasting to others from extreme distances.

Tier A Assault Rifles

  • MS2

  • kilo 141

  • copper carbine

  • Nikita AVT

  • Vargo-S

  • NZ-41

  • gravity

  • BAR

  • AS44

  • QBZ-83

  • M4A1

  • CR-56 AMAX

The Cooper Carbine took a hit to its recoil control, but it’s still a solid weapon to use in Warzone Season 5. The BAR has seen a slight buff, but it’s not expected to make much of a difference to its place in the meta. Finally, the Vargo-S has received a noticeable damage buff, putting it in close contention to move towards S tier as the meta unfolds.

Tier B Assault Rifles

  • KG M40

  • RAM-7

  • ITRA burst

  • Volk

  • M13

We see the KG M40 go from Tier A to Tier B after a huge nerf robbed the weapon of some crucial damage and speed stats. However, the rest of this tier has remained unchanged in Warzone Season 5.

Tier C Assault Rifles

Despite making a minor buff, Groza is still relatively ineffective. (Image: Activision)
  • AN-94

  • FAR 1

  • Basket

  • Scar FN 17

While Groza has received a buff to his minimum damage, it’s certainly not enough to push this weapon further up our tier list. As a result, the C tier is almost unchanged for Season 5.

Tier D Assault Rifles

Tier D weapons such as the Oden remain unchanged this season and should still be avoided if possible. (Image: Activision)

There were no changes to Tier D Assault Rifles; These weapons are unlikely to be fitted before the release of Warzone 2. You can always try a fun loadout with one, but don’t expect to outmatch an equal player with something like the Vargo 52.

And that’s it for our all-AR tier list as we kick off Warzone Season 5.
